I started Sharp Films straight out of university in July 2014, starting from scratch is a real challenge, and you soon realise that the road ahead could get a bit bumpy, which it did.  Year on year my business grew, so did the list of equipment required to do a great job for my clients.  I love my work, the people I meet, the places I travel too and the achievements made and I feel that this show’s in my work. 2017 has turned out to be the best year yet with some really interesting, unique and creative jobs. I have had a lot of repeat business from some of my dedicated clients that love the work I create for them. Also, I have worked with many new clients throughout 2017 which have all been extremely happy with the service we provided. Everything has stepped a notch throughout the year. The Kit, The style and the knowledge has all good bigger and better which means I can keep up the high standard of work that makes Sharp Films stand out from the rest. 2018 is looking like its going to be even more epic, with lots of big plans and exciting shoots in the pipeline. The Clients  – Video Production Exeter

During 2017 I had the pleasure of  meeting and working with lots of fantastic talented people who produce, or are involved with, an array of services, products or activities.  The list is growing, so is the diversity of work, involving the tough extremes of Downhill Biking, to working with Virgin Atlantic, or filming the Exeter Food Festival. It’s not just my own projects I work on, I also work as a second camera operator along with talented Steven Brooks,  on high end productions for a variety of Blue Chip companies. We have a special relationship with our clients. I am taken back by some of the unique ideas that some people turn into really interesting businesses, like a mobile cocktail bar, or exquisite handmade shoes, or a personalised range of outdoor clothing.  The special relationship with our clients extends to consultation, suggestions and recommendation aimed to help boost their presents on the internet. I am really looking forward to seeing what 2018 has to offer and if it was anything like 2017, I cant wait!

The Kit – Exeter Based Videographer

We invested heavily into new kit in 2017 and intend keeping this investment going into the latest tech throughout 2018. It’s important to keep up to date with the latest kit as technology is moving so fast, you can soon be left behind. We added new Camera’s, Gimbals, Lens’, Editing Equipment and much more to the fleet last year. This means that we can be creating the best work possible as we aren’t restricted by the tech. All of our camera’s shoot in ultra sharp 4K and with the gimbal you can capture shots you would never imagine possible. Here is a kit list showing the range of some our video kit we have:

The Cornish Fasty // Extreme Video Production Exeter 

Trying to keep up with Jay Williams isn’t the easiest of tasks…. a single Sharp Films Videographer to keep up with all the activity.  Gawton Gravity Hub, One of the best downhill mountain bike trails in the south west, and where all the action took place.  The weather also added to the challenge, misty to start, light drizzle and then dry, great considering everything had to be shot on foot, not easy when you have to run to keep up, carrying a lot of equipment.  Filming and Editing South West

This action packed Sharp Film was one of our most challenging  assignments, I decided, because of the location and type of terrain, that one camera closer to the action, would add to the actual feel of the shoot.  Almost as soon as it all began I was beginning to doubt my decision, the physical effort required just keeping up with Jay was extremely demanding, but working with him was fantastic, his experience with other film crews helped as we setup positions for jumps and other complicated shots.  Overall the shoot went extremely well, although very exhausting. The kit used was kept to the minimum, a Sony A7Sii & FS5 and Movi M5 Gimbal.

Jay Williamson Downhill // Videographer & Editor Devon

Sharp Films, proud to work with Jay who is 24 years of age, lives in Cornwall, and has competed at the Downhill World cup series, finishing 7th Elite in the British overall Downhill series.  He is currently riding for the Steve Peat Syndicate, Santa Cruz Bicycles, Royal racing, 7th protection and Horizon watches.  Local riding spots are, Woodys Bike Park, Cornwall, and Gawton Gravity Hub, Devon. Jay is a fine example to his profession, through hard work and determination, he has achieved much, but his real reward is the self satisfaction for those achievements and this is just the beginning of his success! We finally had a spare day to get our 2017 showreel sorted to show off what Sharp Films is all about! Its great to look back at all the different projects that we’ve worked on over the last 12 months and see how we have improved brand awareness and potential reach for many of our clients. We have spoken before about the importance of social media and quality video content and it really has never been so powerful. The image below has some great stats about Facebook video.It shows that Facebook generates an average of 8 billion video views a day. Added to this is the organic reach of video is up 135% since 2015… This shows that engaging video content and social media is a winning combination for brand awareness! The year ahead – 2017 | Video production Exeter

Already we have some great projects in the pipeline for 2017 and feel that it is going to be great year. In the near future we are looking to heavily invest in new kit which means that we will be constantly moving with the technology and creating the most up to date and unique work possible! Filming Services Devon

Whoosh Group is a business based in Stratford Upon Avon that specialises in paint protection film for cars. This clear and very clever self healing film protects your car from paint damage on high impact area’s! Whoosh Group have a range or products you can buy so that you can apply the film at home yourself. We were approached by Jake who run’s Whoosh Group at the start of January as he wanted some video’s to promote his services and products. We talked Jake through the best ways to market Whoosh through video. After an initial meeting we planned to do a promotional film for social media to promote the product and service. Another very important part Jake wanted to be captured was how to fit the films yourself. The joys of Whoosh Group is that the films come in template’s fit for your cars, so it is easily applied at home. On the day of shooting we had a stunning Mercedes SLS AMG to use as a prop…. this certainly made the day even more interesting! We are currently in the stages of editing the films together for Jake but he is already very happy with the results he has seen from the camera. Small social media films like this are a great way to advertise your business and they don’t need to cost the world! “I approached Sharp Films in early 2017 about creating a promotional film and number of how to films for my car protection film business “Whoosh Group”. I was instantly impressed with Chris’s enthusiasm for the project and came up with some great idea’s on the spot. On the two filming days I was impressed with how much Chris captured an how he made sure all the shots were up to his high standard. He kept to my brief and brought many good idea’s to this project. Event Video Production Exeter:

Edge Watersport’s is an extreme sports company based in Exmouth. They run a Stand up paddle boarding race every year called “The Exe Hammer”. I was approached by Edge water-sports to cover the event to show and unique and fun it really is. Of course we jumped at the opportunity of spending a day shooting this brilliant little event and off we went!  

The Event :

“This 12km Stand Up paddleboard race/regatta is taking a different route for 2016 with the participants paddling from Topsham back to Exmouth as opposed to the other way round in previous years. This change of direction will enable a much easier start at the Topsham quay which will be great for spectating. The post event party is set to take place at The Beach house which provides an amazing venue for a few beers and some after race banter!” –  (http://www.edgewatersports.com/exe-hammer)  

The Shoot :

The forecast for the event was looking a little iffy but even the strong winds didn’t put anyone off! I started to shoot everyone getting themselves prepared and briefed for the race ahead. This is one of the key moments to shoot at any event! Trying to capture the excitement, atmosphere and maybe even a little nerves. The media speed boat turned up, we jumped in and the race was on! It was a tricky event to film as trying to get a steady shot on a boat is always a challenge, I also had it in mind that I wanted to capture as many people as possible from novice’s right up to the pro’s. Paul Simmons really smashed it this year and won by  a mile, this meant that we had to race onto dry land to shoot him coming onto the beach and logging his time. As people started coming over the line the atmosphere really warmed up and it was easy to capture people smiling and having a great time. The beers and food then came out and it was a perfect end to a great event and shoot.  

The Film:

Capturing an event like this is always a pleasure to do. Filming people when they are having a great time laughing and smiling makes putting an event film together so much easier. Its all about showing the event off in the best possible light. Exe Hammer 2016 was a joy to shoot and we hope that we can go back next year and do it all again.
