I started Sharp Films straight out of university in July 2014, starting from scratch is a real challenge, and you soon realise that the road ahead could get a bit bumpy, which it did.  Year on year my business grew, so did the list of equipment required to do a great job for my clients.  I love my work, the people I meet, the places I travel too and the achievements made and I feel that this show’s in my work. 2017 has turned out to be the best year yet with some really interesting, unique and creative jobs. I have had a lot of repeat business from some of my dedicated clients that love the work I create for them. Also, I have worked with many new clients throughout 2017 which have all been extremely happy with the service we provided. Everything has stepped a notch throughout the year. The Kit, The style and the knowledge has all good bigger and better which means I can keep up the high standard of work that makes Sharp Films stand out from the rest. 2018 is looking like its going to be even more epic, with lots of big plans and exciting shoots in the pipeline. The Clients  – Video Production Exeter

During 2017 I had the pleasure of  meeting and working with lots of fantastic talented people who produce, or are involved with, an array of services, products or activities.  The list is growing, so is the diversity of work, involving the tough extremes of Downhill Biking, to working with Virgin Atlantic, or filming the Exeter Food Festival. It’s not just my own projects I work on, I also work as a second camera operator along with talented Steven Brooks,  on high end productions for a variety of Blue Chip companies. We have a special relationship with our clients. I am taken back by some of the unique ideas that some people turn into really interesting businesses, like a mobile cocktail bar, or exquisite handmade shoes, or a personalised range of outdoor clothing.  The special relationship with our clients extends to consultation, suggestions and recommendation aimed to help boost their presents on the internet. I am really looking forward to seeing what 2018 has to offer and if it was anything like 2017, I cant wait!

The Kit – Exeter Based Videographer

We invested heavily into new kit in 2017 and intend keeping this investment going into the latest tech throughout 2018. It’s important to keep up to date with the latest kit as technology is moving so fast, you can soon be left behind. We added new Camera’s, Gimbals, Lens’, Editing Equipment and much more to the fleet last year. This means that we can be creating the best work possible as we aren’t restricted by the tech. All of our camera’s shoot in ultra sharp 4K and with the gimbal you can capture shots you would never imagine possible. Here is a kit list showing the range of some our video kit we have:

The Cornish Fasty // Extreme Video Production Exeter 

Trying to keep up with Jay Williams isn’t the easiest of tasks…. a single Sharp Films Videographer to keep up with all the activity.  Gawton Gravity Hub, One of the best downhill mountain bike trails in the south west, and where all the action took place.  The weather also added to the challenge, misty to start, light drizzle and then dry, great considering everything had to be shot on foot, not easy when you have to run to keep up, carrying a lot of equipment.  Filming and Editing South West

This action packed Sharp Film was one of our most challenging  assignments, I decided, because of the location and type of terrain, that one camera closer to the action, would add to the actual feel of the shoot.  Almost as soon as it all began I was beginning to doubt my decision, the physical effort required just keeping up with Jay was extremely demanding, but working with him was fantastic, his experience with other film crews helped as we setup positions for jumps and other complicated shots.  Overall the shoot went extremely well, although very exhausting. The kit used was kept to the minimum, a Sony A7Sii & FS5 and Movi M5 Gimbal.

Jay Williamson Downhill // Videographer & Editor Devon

Sharp Films, proud to work with Jay who is 24 years of age, lives in Cornwall, and has competed at the Downhill World cup series, finishing 7th Elite in the British overall Downhill series.  He is currently riding for the Steve Peat Syndicate, Santa Cruz Bicycles, Royal racing, 7th protection and Horizon watches.  Local riding spots are, Woodys Bike Park, Cornwall, and Gawton Gravity Hub, Devon. Jay is a fine example to his profession, through hard work and determination, he has achieved much, but his real reward is the self satisfaction for those achievements and this is just the beginning of his success! I wanted to create a very simple explanation of how the process works start to finish to create a promotional film. This process is pretty much the same for every project that is taken on; obviously the size of the project will determine how long it takes to do each stage from planning through to completion. One of the biggest and most important aims of Sharp Films is for the client to have trust in us. When a new project is starting I go through this simple process so that you know exactly what happens and when.

Plan it

I will come and meet with you or talk on the phone about your project idea or brief. This is also a time for me to understand more about your business or product. This is important so that I can make any recommendations to how the film could work. Often I am able to bounce different idea’s around that you might not of thought of and adapt the idea to be more engaging or creative. Once I understand the brief and your business I can go away and create a general plan for the shoot.

The Shoot

This is when I can get all the toys out! I shoot on some of the most up to date videography equipment available and if needed have a further production team I can bring in to assist on the shoot. Having a solid brief is always very important at this stage. Having the time to be creative is even more important tho. Often taking a step back and just shooting what works is best thing you can do ! You can capture some of those special moments or intricate details that take your film up a notch.

The Edit

The edit is my favourite part of the whole process. This is where I get to put together the creation and make the vision a reality. I use a professional and high quality edit suite powered by Apple Macs. The footage firstly gets logged in order of appearance. Then the soundtrack is added, colour is graded and then a final tighten. I then watch through to make sure I am 100% happy with the edit. The client will then be able to review the edit and I can make any further changes needed.
